This highly skilled process requires professional tools, specific lighting, and expert technique to ensure the minimum amount of clear coat is removed to achieve maximum clarity.
Preparation (Wash & Decontamination): The vehicle is thoroughly washed, followed by a chemical decontamination (Tar & Iron removal) and clay bar treatment to ensure the paint surface is surgically clean and free of all bonded contaminants.
Assessment & Measurement: The paint thickness is measured across all panels using a digital Paint Thickness Gauge (PTG). This crucial step determines the severity of the defect and how much clear coat can be safely removed.
The ‘Cut’ (Compounding): This is the defect removal stage. We use specialized heavy-cutting compounds and foam or microfiber pads on a machine polisher to safely abrade and remove the top, damaged layer of the clear coat, permanently eliminating swirls and scratches.
The ‘Polish’ (Refining): The cutting stage leaves a slight haze. We follow up with a finer polish and a softer pad. This refining stage restores exceptional gloss, removes any micro-hazing left by the compound, and achieves a deep, mirror-like finish.
Inspection: The paint is inspected under different light sources (LED light and direct sunlight simulation) to ensure all defects have been permanently removed and the finish is flawless.
Protection (Essential): Because the clear coat is now bare, the final and most critical step is the application of a high-quality Wax, Sealant, or a Ceramic Coating to lock in the brilliant finish and protect the newly exposed clear coat from immediate re-damage.
